“Consider Yourself one of the family . . .”  Oliver Twist is one of Charles Dickens best loved stories and one of the most enduring. The Hartland Players is proud to announce our production of Lionel Bart’s musical, Oliver!

As with virtually all of the great stories which last, love and home are at the core of Oliver! It is this that the orphan boy Oliver searches for from the very beginning. His journey leads him from the workhouse to a funeral parlor, through the dingy streets of London, into a den of thieves, up to a wealthy London apartment, and back again before he is happily established in his rightful home. The story, while having a dark and foreboding undercurrent, never descends into the morbid but remains filled with irresistible characters and memorable music. Nancy provides the mother figure that Oliver desires, Dodger, the agreeable rogue, who cons his way into the audience’s heart, and of course Fagin, the arch abuser of the young becomes, in the hands of Charles Dickens and Lionel Bart, an object of sympathy. The main dramatic line is never lost on its rocky way to a wonderful happy ending.

ALL: You will need contact info as well as calendars with conflicts, work schedules, vacations, etc.

All conflicts from March 10 - May 18, 2008 must be submitted on the audition form.

CREW: A crew & parent meeting will be held during the first rehearsal on Monday, March 10. This is mandatory for parents and all other interested crew members are encouraged to attend. We need backstage talent in all of the following areas. Light, Sound, Costume, Set, Props, Makeup, Publicity, House Manager, Stage Manager, Cast Manager, Crew Manager, Dialect Coach, Music Performance Operator, Dance Captain.

CAST: Pick up your audition packet containing forms, instructions, songs with accompaniment, and script readings at the Cromaine Library, Crossroads & Main branches, Hartland, or A Joyful Noise Music Studio, 220 N. Walnut, Fenton. Please fill out forms prior to auditions. A parent/guardian MUST accompany all auditioning students (age 8–14) throughout the auditioning process. An interview with each student and parent is a part of the audition process.

Prepare the audition song as directed in the packet. Come prepared to show your musical ability, enthusiasm, charisma, energy level, and dedication through your performance.

You may be asked to read selections from the script.  We are looking for ease of speaking & projection, vocal & facial expression, body language & movement and story telling. Be prepared to demonstrate the ability to perform simple dance steps that you will learn during the audition.

The script is available for perusal at the Cromaine Library, Crossroads and Main branches.

Letter From The President’s Desk...

Hello, Hartland Players!
I hope all is going well for everyone into this year of 2008.  The Hartland Players have two fabulous productions in progress.
Opening Friday, February 15, 2008, is a hilarious comedy, "I Hate Hamlet" directed by Jenifer Thomas and is loaded with talent!  The set build was presided over by our cherished members, Ray and Helen Roehlk, and is one of the most detailed and mystical sets I have seen at the Music Hall.  Many thanks to them.
I was at the Performing Arts Center in Hartland last week and saw that the "Oompa-Loompas" have invaded the auditorium.   This means only one thing, folks- "Willy-Wonka, Junior" rehearsals are in full swing!  Make sure you buy your ticket in advance for this one.  It’s sure to be a sell-out!
And last, but not least - I would like to thank Bob Hachlinski for his dedication to the Hartland Players’ Board of Directors over the past few years.  Unfortunately, Bob had to recently resign for personal reasons.  However, he has reassured us that we will still see him around the Music Hall and keep his membership with the Hartland Players active.
Until next month….

Sincerely yours,
Janet Winn

Don’t miss your last chance to see Main Stage’s hilarious comedy
